Pepper Spray vs. Stun Guns... How about a TASER Device?

Which self-defense option is best for you?

Pepper spray, stun guns and TASER devices are three of the best options you can choose to make sure you are prepared for the unexpected.  However, a one-size-fits-all device is not necessarily available.  Your taste in music, food, clothing, and any lifestyle choices are your own personal preference, just as your choice of personal protection to defend yourself against an attacker will depend solely on your comfort with that particular device.

When choosing between pepper spray, stun guns and TASER devices, you must consider many variables, including your personality, specific geographic region, any physical strength limitation and your habits. 

Personality Concerns

Are you inclined to panic easily or are you able to keep some sort of composure in the wake of a potential threat?  People tending to panic may be a better match with a stun gun.  Stun guns do not necessarily have to hit a certain spot to be effective, just juice up your attacker anywhere on their body. On the other hand,  pepper sprays, must hit your attackers face, hopefully as close to or directly into their eyes to be most effective.

Environmental Concerns

An area that is particularly prone to wind or rain would wreak havoc on your stream of pepper spray if you are standing in the wrong air flow direction. Conditions such as these could cause the pepper spray to miss the intended target or shoot backwards into your face. A stun gun or TASER device would be more beneficial to you than pepper spray as these devices would work just as well, rain, wind or shine.  

Strength Limitations and Habits

Now think about your personal strengths and weaknesses.  Pepper sprays can be deployed from about a foot away to a maximum of about ten feet, depending on the model. Some makes and models may even spray even further (read your package).  Contact stun guns  must be pressed directly into your attacker body and held for a couple seconds, the more the better.  Can you physically and psychologically do that?  TASER device have a maximum range of 15 feet. This means if the attacker is 15 feet, 1 inch away, you will not reach him with the deployed prongs. (These devices will however double as a contact stun gun in a pinch).

Stun gun and TASER device may be slightly harder to conceal than small canisters of pepper spray. We aren't talking much larger than cell phones in most cases, but consider your typical attire.  Do you commonly wear layers, go out without a coat, wear loose or skintight outfits?  You need to think about your attire, and most likely buy a couple different self-defense options depending on what clothing is appropriate for that particular day or event. Think fashion accessories. How any pairs of shoes, jewelry or other clothing accessories do you have? You don't have to go as ridiculous as your shoe collection, but have a couple different options, suitable to what you are wearing or where you are able to store and retrieve your self-defense device.

Our newer stun guns and TASER device are pretty compact but keychain pepper spray are about the smallest, lightest and most convenient personal protection items available.

Conclusion

The reality is that any option, whether you choose pepper spray, stun guns or a TASER device can be used to effectively defend yourself or a loved one.  But like every other gadget on the market, some items will work better for one person but not so well for the other.  Consider all of your options before you make your decision on what to purchase.  Also consider that since many model are rather inexpensive, buying a couple will be even more convenient. We strongly suggest carrying more than one at a time to keep you options open.

Carry a keychain pepper spray or a large canister in your purse and strap a stun gun on your belt. Have a stun gun or auto visor pepper spray ready for quick access in your car or truck. Increase your own odds that you will be well prepared to effectively fight back, no matter what the circumstances. The choice is yours, and it may be your life or the life of a loved on on the line.
