I am always getting questions in the e-mail. What self defense product would you suggest for this situation? Do you ship internationally? What is the difference between this product and that one?
When I get a particularly good question, I try to incorporate the answer into the product description in case others have the same question. Likewise, when I get a product question I refer back to the product page to verify that I didn’t already include those extra details. Many times the answer was there and the customer simply overlooked that section.
Like the saying goes “The only stupid question is the one you don’t ask…” I did however get an unusual question the other day from a female prospective customer.
Does the Pink Pepper Spray work better than the other colors?
At first I wasn’t sure if it was a joke, or a serious inquiry. I resisted the urge to immediately respond that the color of the plastic casing had no bearing on the effectiveness of the product. I could have simply reassured this person that the black, red, blue or pink models were all equal.
Instead I pondered what other meaning could possibly be behind this question. Yes, I was bored and had some free time to spare…
So I carefully crafted the following answer:
“Yes, the pink pepper spray works better. Physically, the pepper spray contained in each colored container is identical. Psychologically, if you are more apt to actually carry the pink colored model, it will be 100% more effective than a black, blue or red container that you leave at home or don’t practice using. I would suggest the Wildfire 18% Pepper spray keychain over the Pepper Shot 10% pepper spray keychain. – In pink, if that is your favorite color.”
After I already sent that reply, I second thought my response. But it was too late, sent means sent. Now I was hoping I didn’t come across negatively, slightly sarcastic, or otherwise rude. Oh well, what are you going to do, right?
So a couple of hours later, I heard back from this woman. Not in the form of an e-mail reply, but on a purchase notification.
She placed an order for five Wildfire Pepper Spray key chains. Four in pink, one in blue.
I’m not sure what she is going to do with the blue one. Maybe that one is for her husband or son.
