Where’s the Beef? Robbery at Wendy’s doesn’t stack up

Posted by Rob on Tuesday, 3 August, 2010

Atlanta police report that a man ripped off a Wendy’s drive-through for almost $600 late last Saturday night, but wasn’t happy with the amount and called up the restaurant to complain. Twice. “Next time there better be more than $586!”

Apparently the ski-masked and gun toting man walked up to the outside of the fast-food drive-through and demanded the cash drawer. The employee complied, and the robber grabbed the drawer and ran off. He discarded the drawer in the bushes and made off with the cash on foot.

Later that night after the robber had time to count the cash, he repeatedly called the restaurant in frustration to complain about the haul. The manager should have told him the drawer was now full again and he should come back… with the local authorities waiting for him. He obviously isn’t that bright, it might have worked.

Besides 586 bucks in a single cash register isn’t too bad. The managers are “supposed” to skim off excess money throughout the night and lock it in the safe. At least we did back when I worked in a fast food joint. There wasn’t supposed to be more than $150 in there. It’s not like someone is going to regularly roll up to the register and peel a $100 bill off a stack of cash to pay for a $5 value meal.

With the close proximity of fast-food restaurants always clumped together, he probably could have hit more than one and increased his nightly total. $586 at Wendy’s, $491 at McDonald’s, $611 at the Burger King, another $535 at the Dunkin Donuts… that would have been a decent night’s pull, and he wouldn’t have had to call back to complain…

Oh wait, hitting up the Dunkin Donut shop probably wouldn’t have been the best idea… that’s where all the cops hang out…

Be Safe, Be Prepared.

Officer In Distress Helped By Woman With Stun Gun in Atlanta

Posted by Rob on Friday, 30 January, 2009

I just saw a story about an Atlanta woman who saw a policeman struggling with an suspect on the side of the road and grabbed her stun gun and went to his aid.

Tanisha Cross, who recently got a stun gun this past Christmas from her husband, never thought it would come in handy so soon.

Apparently Cross was headed to the Wal-Mart in Lithonia with her mom when she noticed a DeKalb County police officer being attacked by a suspect.

“I just told my mom pull over, … let’s try to help,” said Cross.

The 20-year-old mother kept her new stun gun in her diaper bag, just in case. She said that while others were gathering around watching what was happening, she sprung into action.

“I went straight for my kid’s diaper bag and I got it and asked it if he (the officer) wanted me to do it and he said, ‘Yea,’” said Cross.

The officer appeared to be having a hard time defending himself because the suspect had taken the officer’s radio and managed to rub some pepper spray in the officer’s face and eyes.

Giving the attacker a hefty jolt, Cross’ timing couldn’t have been better, stunning the suspect in his arms and legs.

The officer was able to regain his composure and fight back until a security guard came to their aid.

“He’s brave,” she said. “He did his best to keep him from his gun. He handled the situation very well. I was just glad I could help him,” said Cross.

Cross doesn’t consider herself a hero, although the officer appeciated the well timed and effective assistance.

“I’m just a bystander trying to help do the right thing,” said Cross.

I’ve got another interesting story about a little old lady in Florida who used a pepper spray on a guy trying to rob the convenience store she was in.

I will post it later on, but until then Be safe, Be prepared.

Masked Burglar Captured, Courthouse Crime Spree Ended

Posted by Rob on Tuesday, 26 August, 2008

A masked burglar broke into the Richard B. Russell Federal Building in downtown Atlanta, GA. Apparently he ransacked much of the building over the course of a couple days, covering several floors and stealing many items in this crime spree. No one was injured in the buglaries.

On the 14th floor of the facility he stole half an apple and left distinctly traceable footprints across a set of federal memos. On the 10th floor he stole a bunch of chocolate chip cookies, and ripped off a sandwich left in a 9th floor office. Way up on the 23rd floor, a package of dried soup was ripped open and emptied or its contents.

From the clues left at the scenes, a court clerk created a wanted poster from what he believed the perpetrator looked like. An alarm system or hidden camera was not required in to solve this case. Instead, a private company was called into the scene that specializes in this type of break-ins and a trap baited with tuna fish was placed in a ceiling compartment that was expected to be one of the locations of his next hit.

Luckily it did not take too long leaving the fragrant tuna in the ceiling tiles, as the burglar could not resist the temptation over the weekend. On Monday when people came back to work, a judicial assistant heard a noise overhead. Two of the workers carefully removed the ceiling tiles and apprehended the trapped suspect.

From the evidence left at the scene, it was later determined that the heating system may have been compromised from outside the building. In honor of the building’s namesake, the office workers dubbed the suspect “Russell.”

In lieu of incarceration, “We’re going to see if we can get him turned loose on a farm somewhere,” said the building manager. “We’re going to take him a long way from this building.”
