 Holiday Shopping Safety Tips. Don’t get

The days are getting shorter, the nights are getting longer, and the time to finish up all of your Holiday shopping is closing in. As well as being aware of what items are still on sale at which store, more importantly you need to be fully aware of your surrounding during this hectic time of year. Besides the increase in stress and irritability you and your fellow shoppers are experiencing, there is also an increase in crime that everyone must be sure to not discount. The parking lots and busy shopping malls make quite the attractive target for would-be criminals to have a field day. Distracted and hurried, carrying extra spending cash, carrying too many bags back to your car, that is of course parked in the very back of the dark parking lot? The more attractive of a target you present means the greater of a chance for an unpleasant shopping tragedy. Here are some quick and easy tips for safer holiday shopping: 1) Shop with an adult friend when possible. Criminals are looking for easy targets. Groups of two or more are less likely to be picked out. 2) Lock your car as soon as you leave and return. Do not get caught unsuspected with your doors unlocked as you check off items off your shopping list, reconcile your checkbook, or otherwise dilly-dally in your car before leaving the parking lot. 3) Be aware of your surroundings. Look around your car before entering. Look inside, look under, look next to. If anything is suspicious, return to the store and ask for assistance. 4) While looking for a parking space, take that extra lap around the lot for a better, closer, well-lit spot. When possible, try to shop earlier in the day instead of later at night. 5) Carry your wallet, money, credit cards and keys in an inside pocket, not in an external purse or handbag. If your purse were to be snatched, your most valuable items will still be safe. Also do not wrap your purse strap around your shoulder, neck or wrist. This may cause injury in a struggle. 6) Consider some sort of non-lethal self defense product. Don’t be the next victim. There may not be a security guard or another friendly person in the vicinity.
